Hera Family Care
Hera Family Care is a bespoke maternity and sexual health care service that provides pregnancy and postpartum care to women and families on the island of Rhodes and the surrounding islands in the Dodecanese or even globally, either face to face or online with special attention to mental health care. Through our personalised programs we are here to provide you with the best start on your pregnancy and parenthood journey, while also offering sexual health education to teenagers, adults and local communities.
Our hybrid model of service provision means that we can reach anyone who wishes to use our services whether that be a once off baby care class, an online session or a full pregnancy and postnatal package.
Our vision is to provide evidence based, personalised reproductive healthcare to all our clients with special attention to detail and the specific needs of our community. At Hera Family Care we care for the community. We look forward to welcoming you!
About Our Founder
Our founder is Maritsa (or Ritsa) Clarke and she is a midwife with a passion for change and respecting women’s rights to their bodies and experiences around childbirth and throughout their reproductive lives.
She grew up and studied in Greece where she got a first-class honours degree in midwifery from the Alexander Technological Educational institute in Thessaloniki.
She then went on to volunteer for a short time in Cape Coast in Ghana, West Africa. This experience helped to broaden her horizons in maternity care and piqued her interested in community outreach work.
Following on from that she gained her Nursing and Midwifery Council Credentials from the UK and worked at the Great Western Hospital Foundation trust as a rotational, specialist and community midwife for over 6 years. She has been part of more than 500 births, either delivering, teaching or assisting, is proficient in perineal repair and has helped more than 1000 breastfeeding mothers.
During this time she also gained a distinction in her MSc in Global Public Health from the Queen Mary University of London with a qualitative research project about Perinatal Mental Health Services in Greece.
Working for the NHS gave her the experience and knowledge she required to embark on her dream of creating a community-based maternity and reproductive health care service for rural communities in the Dodecanese, in Greece
